Trouble with Police again

Hello! It's David.Today was the day we went to visit Jugurtha tableland, a table top mountain fortress of historical legend that I was really looking forward to visit. However, the police ruined our plan once again! They stopped our car on entering the town and told us we couldn’t visit the area at all!!! Their reasoning was that all the terrorists lived up there and that it was cold.... If you know where they all live why don't you go arrest them!! I lost my temper a bit but ayami calmed me down. Luckily after some calmer negotiations they agreed we could visit the mountain for one hour but absolutely no CAMPING! Not only that but we weren’t even allowed to stay in the town for the night. On the plus side they gave us a free ride in their police cruiser to the bottom of the mountain and waited for us free of charge. Perfect protection from the terrorists waiting above... we were thinking of escaping somehow but they had our passports so we were under their control.

またもや警察が僕たちの計画を台無しにするのです。彼らは私達の乗っていた車を止めて、危ないから目的地に訪れる事を一切禁止すると言いました。 その理由は、テロリストが山頂に潜んでいるから、あと外で寝るのも寒いしとの事。 なぜ、潜んでると言い張るのに捕まえないのでしょうか？ 僕は少し怒り狂ったが、あや美は私を落ち着かせました。彼らは穏やかな交渉の後、、、幸運にも僕たちが山を一時間だけ訪れることができると決めましたが、絶対にキャンプはさせないと言い張るのです。 それだけでなく、私たちは夜にこの町に滞在することさえ許されませんでした。(ホテルがなく観光客用の街ではない為との事) 彼らは最終的にパトカーで私たちを山の麓まで無料で送迎してくれ、私達が山を散策してる間も待っていたのです。山頂にテロリストがいると言っていたのに麓で待つとは完璧なボディーガード！ どうにか逃げてキャンプしようとも考えたけれどパスポートを彼らに没収されたので、下手な事はできなませんでした！{確かに、テロリストが潜んでると言っている割には、私達を自由にさせすぎ？こんだけ時間を割いてくれるのは有り難かったのですが。}

About this table mountain

The reason for visiting this (apparently) terrorist ridden hell hole in the middle of nowhere is because of the mountains historical importance  and its unique geological formation .It's hard to describe how formidable the mountain looks from below and how impossible it must have felt to capture for an invading army.  The table mountain itself is about 500m wide and 1.5km long and surrounded by 50m sheer cliff walls full of crumbling rock on all sides. There is only one possible entry point, a stair case chizzeled into the cliff face and at one point enters through a small tunnel in the cliff  that only one or two people at a time can fit through. But in times of war they broke the tunnel making attacks impossible. The flat farmland on the top ment that people could wait as long as need be to outlast an enemy force. From my two minute google search it is said that the Numidian king Jugurtha (who the mountain is named after)  did exactly that, and hid up here when the romans came having already conquered the rest of Tunisia. Even the mighty roman legion was unable to break through the mountains protective defense.

周りに何もない、テロリストか潜んでる(らしい)地獄の場所を訪れる理由は、この山に大事な歴史があるのと、独特の地質学的な形が興味深いからです。 実際に下から山がどのように見えるか説明が難しいけれど、侵略軍にとって、頂上に辿り着く事がいかに不可能であったかを物語っています。 このテーブルマウンテンの頂上の表面は、横幅約500メートル、縦幅1.5キロあり、高さ約50mのロッククライミングに適した崖の壁に囲まれています。{彼は大のロッククライミング好きなのです。私からしたらただの岩} 頂上へ行く為の可能な入口は1つしかありません。 崖の面に刻まれた階段は、一度に1〜2人だけが入ることができる崖の小さなトンネルを通って入ります。 戦争時この入口を塞いでいた為、敵は登る事が出来ず、麓からの攻撃はもちろん不可能であり、平らな農地で、山頂にいる彼らの力が滅びるのを待つしかなかった。 僕の2分間のグーグルサーチから、ヌミディアンの王であったジュグルダ（この山の名前に使われた男）は当にその作戦を行い、ローマ人がすでにチュニジアの残りの部分を征服した時に、ここに隠れていたと言われています。 あの巨大であったローマ軍団でさえ、この山の防衛を破ることができませんでした。 {歴史に詳しくない私はどんだけローマ軍が大きかったのか知りませんが、1ヶ月以上下界に降りず、生き延びたのがすごい。下記、彼らが蓄えていたお水の穴の写真}

We were satisfied overall

Our one hour at the top was way too short but extremely exciting as we ran from the caves where people slept to the cliff edges and back hopping over splits in the earth.It would have been incredible to sleep in the cave dwellings here and woken up to the sunrise. The 360 views of the surrounding countryside is truly breathtaking. The climbing potential here is also incredible. With cliffs on all sides stretching around the whole mountain and massive boulders around the base there really is unlimited potential for all types of climbing. I will need more than an hour to make some first ascents though so this hidden gem will have to wait to be further explored.

最終的には満足

僕達が頂上で許された一時間という散策時間は短過ぎたが、とても興奮しました。 当時、人々が寝ていた洞窟の上から深い岩の割れ目を飛び越え、崖まで走りました。 もし警察が僕達がここでキャンプする事を許してくれていれば、美しい日の出を拝めたのに。周辺の田舎の360の景色は本当に息を呑むほどです。ロッククライミングのポテンシャルも信じられないほどです。全面的に山と巨大な岩の周りに伸びる崖がすべてのタイプのロッククライミングに無限の可能性を秘めています。しかし、この隠された宝の場所を探検するには一時間じゃ足りません。

正直な話、この記事を翻訳するのに3日間かかった😭 . まず、長すぎるし、いつも使わないような単語使ってくるし、細かい事気にしてるとやる気なくなり、 . 翌日見返すとこの言い回しはこうじゃない方が伝わりやすいかなぁと自己嫌悪に陥り、 . 最終的には、難しい文章を簡単な英語で説明してもらって翻訳したので二度手間(笑) . . 翻訳を仕事にしてる人ってすごいなぁって改めて感じた。 . . 後半の文章は、もうニュアンスでいーやと投げやりです🙏 . . フランス語のが難しいけど、英語もすごく難しい。 . . 彼が書いてくれた記事がもう1つあるのですが、、、 またこの翻訳地獄に追われると思うと気が失せる(泣) . . 折角書いてくれた彼には申し訳ないけど、気が向いたらいつか翻訳しますw .
